Highs And Lows ~ 2009

1The year started with a super abundance of oil seed rape (canola) formations nestling serenely in the blazing yellow fields. The first one appeared at the Ridgeway on the 14 April. There were a record number, thirteen in all, one of the most memorable being the beautiful event just off the busy M4 at Peak’s Down, nr Swindon. One of the many imbued with a particularly harmonious feel. Jim Lyons remarked,

“The data clearly shows we have three diatonic octaves here. Eight is very significant since it encompasses an octave as well as a cubic element of space. From an atomic viewpoint it is the number of electrons in one complete energy shell (Quantum Theory is just the harmonics as is the whole Universe). This again reflects the way the earth energies organise themselves, just like the structure of space itself.

Jim is a professional engineer, specialising in electronics. After a career in the aerospace industry where he was one time Chief Engineer responsible for the development of the Harrier Jump Jet, he has recently retired from the academic world at York University and is busy writing his first book on his mainstream scientific findings.

2I was also impressed with the Rutland Farm `Sun burst` and together with William Betts we examined it closely for 2 hours and could find little evidence of human involvement and many aspects that could only have occurred by a natural or unknown force. Consequently we buried bottles inside and controls outside. (The controls always being buried first and collected last so that they never experience the energy of the formation). As oil seed rape leaves tell tale signs of humans (i.e. weight being applied), we were disappointed in the results and I wonder if indeed we are looking in the right direction with the standard YARA water test for trace minerals? Time alone will tell and we are looking into additional methods of detection.

I was sent two reports from Rutland’s Farm telling me of photographic and electrical irregularities.

“My camera battery failed after taking just one picture inside the circle. I felt a sense of confidence and my irritated eczema felt better.”
“My hair is dark brown with some red highlights; the photos we took inside the circle, made my hair a bright red colour. The deep inner feeling I had when I was inside the circle was of overwhelming happiness and peacefulness at the same time. I felt a deep sense of reverence.”

Moving into the glorious month of May, I was delighted to receive an enthusiastic email from Dr Karen Ralls, Medieval Historian/ Musicologist at Oxford who has been asked to write up the works of the late Anne Macaulay who held the Chair of Music at Edinburgh University. She had been directed to my web site to look at the Windmill Hill `Harp`. “Seven "

"The overall situation is rather complex, but fascinating.   It seems that at the very beginning (i.e., in the West), objects created by pre-Greek inhabitants of the Aegean area in general, we find that the earliest known stringed instrument re: this part of the ancient world is the harp. (In fact, last night, I was learning more about the early visual depictions of at least seven small marble figures of seated harpists, that belong to the period between about 2700 -2100 B.C., that were discovered on islands in the Cyclades (Keros, Thera, and Naxos).  Those are referred to by musicologists as the 'Cycladic harps' - but the precise language or culture of these people is unknown, w/some archaeologists believing that (as they were pre-Greek, etc), that they may possibly have come from W. Anatolia (modern Turkey), and then, into the Aegean/Greek areas. Since these marble figures don’t show the exact # of strings or how they were plucked, etc., we cannot know how many there were for sure, but as there is a general lack of sources from about 2000 to 1500 B.C., it is not at present certain exactly what cultural contacts there were between these early Cycladic people and the Greek-speaking people who began to arrive in the Aegean area after 2000 B.C."

” Equally of interest, and rather puzzling to many experts, is to what extent these early Cycladic people had musical cultural contacts w/the Minoan (Crete) civilisation, but it is known for sure that the Minoans had only one kind of early stringed instrument -- the seven-stringed lyre.  This was, at the latest, by around 1600 B.C."

Also that the outer, smaller circles appear to number 19  (i.e., interesting, to me, in that the Metonic moon cycle of Callanish, etc, and other stone circles in Scotland/British Isles, is approx: every 19 years and this was clearly known to the ancients to built them.”

Meton was a Greek mathematician, astronomer, geometer and engineer.
He lived in Athens in the 5th C BC and the 19 year Metonic lunisolar calendar was named after him.

34Following the Harp there was a rush of organic formations which were given great and rather unfortunate press coverage that diminished the credibility created by the favourable press reports of the wonderful Barbury Castle Pi formation the previous year.  One of these formations, the Hummingbird that arrived at Milk Hill, Nr Stanton St Bernard on the 2 July caught my interest. It had a curious resemblance to the Nasca Hummingbird. In Aztec legend they believed that the souls of their dead warriors were brought back in the guise of hummingbirds or butterflies; in the Andes of South America, the hummingbird is believed to die on cold nights but returns to life in the morning, thus representing a symbol of resurrection.

Steve Meredith sent me a fascinating report which needs further investigation. He told me that he had had a bad water skiing accident in his youth. He had pulled muscles badly in his neck but recovered well.  About 10 years later he started to suffer increasingly bad neck pains that were diagnosed as arthritis. By the summer of 2009, he was finding it hard to get any sleep at night.

In August 2009 he and his wife took their caravan to Wiltshire. Being in the caravan he found it even more difficult to get any sleep and could only do so by using a special pillow and lying on one side of his head. Whilst in Wiltshire they visited several crop circles in the Marlborough area, about 12 or 13 in all, but it was during his visit to the `Hummingbird` formation at Stanton, Milk Hill that he realised that the pains in his neck had completely disappeared.

“I am 99.5% free of pain. I get the odd tingle now and then. In the days leading up to that day I was in terrible pain could hardly sleep at night, but the evening after we went in I was free of pain. The relief was tremendous and this continued for several months with only the occasional twinge until after a flight to Antigua and back, when they returned noticeably.”

However when I spoke to him on the 30 November 2009 he told me that his neck was still 70% better than been prior to his visit to the `Hummingbird`. Many people are researching the damaging effects of radio masts, also there is growing amount neuro literature and research into the beneficial properties of pulsed EMF’s (Electromagnetic Fields). Milk Hill is one of the highest points for some miles – 295m/968. This is relevant as they were staying in an aluminium walled caravan which would concentrate the signals. Possibly a standing wave developed in which he slept. It has been suggested that it was the combination of frequency, amplitude and pulse rate with rise and fall time of the signals which 'did the trick'.

4Each year we conduct scientific tests that include as many different aspects of scientific research as possible. In the morning of Sunday 12 July, Jim Lyons, Dr Roger Taylor, Dr Konstantin Pavlidis, Dr Clive Beale, an agricultural scientist along with guinea pigs Christopher Weeks, Anne Leonard, Jackie Faulkner and William Betts gathered at the study centre at Avebury. With its excellent facilities we conducted control tests. This year the date was fixed for Sunday 12 July and the circle selected was the Silbury formation that had appeared on the 5 July. Whilst resembling a North American Indian headdress, others believed it depicted the god Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent or Precious Twin. He was considered to be the god of intelligence and self-reflection, a patron of priests.

”As the Lord of the East he is associated with the morning star, his twin brother Xolotl was the evening star (Venus). As the morning star he was known by the name Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli, "lord of the star of the dawn."

5Quetzalcoatl is Ehecatl, the Wind God. His calendrical name is Ce Acatl (One Reed).”

Hazel Norton being called away on a lecture course, Martin and Elaine Faulkener kindly took her place. The results were sent to Hazel Norton who reported on her findings using the Asyra technique:
The colours: As a general rule, for all the tests, the colour-coding in the tests is as follows:

The Asyra machine.
In the 1950's Dr R Voll discovered that acupuncture points, traditionally used for treatment, could also be used to measure an individual's state of health. Through many thousands of screenings he found that particular points were associated with particular organ imbalances and health conditions. These principals were key in the development of the BEST Screening system, which was a highly developed version of Dr Voll's original instrument monitored the body's energetic response to various substances and tests through a process called biofeedback. We all respond to our environments in various ways. If you see, taste or hear something you really like you will think good thoughts and your body will physically respond by relaxing, producing saliva etc. If however you experience something undesirable you will respond very differently; tension, shallow breathing, thoughts of how to avoid it etc. Biofeedback is the process of monitoring how your body responds to various stimuli. With Electro Dermal Screening (EDS) systems this is done by monitoring electrical changes in acupuncture points while tests are performed.
The technology works by measuring the amount of current that passes through the cellular structure of an organ, gland or body system, which reveals the functional status of the tissue. Because the assessment is based on defined parameters of health any deviation from the standard is easily detected. This provides an accurate picture of how the body is functioning. Once the body’s problem areas have been identified,

The Asyra System is the next generation of bio-energetic health screening. New technology has eliminated the need to test at each individual acupuncture point, making screenings faster than ever and eliminating variables that may arise from the administration of the screenings.

Since the 1950’s many studies, tests and research papers have been produced, verifying the effectiveness of the process. There are many papers on the physics and bio-electrical principles behind EDS.

In a recent study, Drawing from a clinical pool of 1,800 patients, E. Alan Jeppsen, M.D., and Steven G. Osguthorpe, N.D., conducted a double-blind study of over 600 randomly assigned patients, of which 100 were used as control subjects. This study, “Effectiveness of the Asyra in Assessing Sub-Physiologic Thyroid Levels in Women 35 to 65 Years of Age,” yielded a 97 percent correlation with blood chemistry.

The Asyra system is also registered with the FDA in America

Crop Circle Day 12th July 2009

“We ran five different tests.
1. Baseline test – This test measures energy states in major organs and systems. This can give an indication of which organs are out of balance and could indicate health problems.
2. Comprehensive test – Thousands of test items in the computer’s database are tested to show whether one has been affected by viruses, bacteria, parasites, etc.
3. Hormonal imbalance – 31 hormonal signatures are tested for imbalances.
4.Chakra Imbalances – The 7 chakras are tested.
5.Geopathic stress and Harmful Energies -  Here we look at Earth fields, electromagnetic stress, mineral deposits, power lines, microwave energies, radioactive exposure, ultraviolet waves and X rays."

"The first tests were done at the Avebury study centre between 10.00am and midday. We had 10 subjects (including the Faulkeners) – 7 men and 3 women.
The same tests were then done in the crop circle between 2.00pm and 3.00pm.
I was then able to compare the results at home to see if there were any significant changes in the 2 sets of results.
As well as comparing the 2 sets of tests I also compared the results of 10 random people."

“10 subjects were tested using the Asyra machine at this year’s crop circle research day. A control test was run at the Avebury research centre and then the same tests were run in the crop circle. The results between the two tests were then collated and compared to see if there were any significant differences.   In a normal test group I would expect to see between 1 or 2 out of 10 have an imbalance of the same organ, or hormone (as can be seen when testing the 10 subjects at Avebury) with the very occasional 3 and rarely 4 out of 10 so for the purpose of this research I am taking any test results over 4 out of 10 as significant. We had some this year of 5 and 6 out of 10."

31 hormones are tested with Asyra. In the crop circle both Thyroxine (T4) and Triodothronine (T3) showed up as imbalanced in 4 and 5 of the test group. Interestingly the levels of the T3 became increased in the circle to 70, 66, 76 and 65 (this number represents a deviance from 50 which is a ‘normal’ reading) and the T4 decreased to 42, 39, 34, 34, and 42.

The function of the thyroid gland is to take iodine, found in many foods, and convert it into thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroid cells are the only cells in the body which can absorb iodine. These cells combine iodine and the amino acid tyrosine to make T3 and T4. T3 and T4 are then released into the blood stream and are transported throughout the body where they control metabolism (conversion of oxygen and calories to energy). Every cell in the body depends upon thyroid hormones for regulation of their metabolism. The normal thyroid gland produces about 80% T4 and about 20% T3, however, T3 possesses about four times the hormone "strength" as T4.

The other hormones which showed an interesting pattern were:-

Adrenocorticoid Hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, a small oval endocrine gland that lies at the base of the brain. It is sometimes called the master gland of the body because all the other endocrine glands depend on its secretions for stimulation.
Its chief function is to stimulate the cortex of the adrenal gland or suprarenal gland to secrete adrenocortical steroids, chief among them cortisone steroid hormone whose main physiological effect is on carbohydrate metabolism.
The release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), also known as corticotropin, is stimulated by corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), a secretion of the hypothalamus. ACTH secretion is an excellent example of the regulation of a biological system by a negative-feedback mechanism; high levels of adrenocortical steroids in the blood tend to decrease ACTH release, whereas low steroid levels have the opposite effect.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone found in animals and in some other living organisms, including algae Circulating levels vary in a daily cycle, and melatonin is important in the regulation of the circadian rhythms of several biological functions.[Many biological effects of melatonin are produced through activation of melatonin receptors while others are due to its role as a pervasive and powerful antioxidant with a particular role in the protection of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA

Somatropin also commonly referred to as human growth hormone (HGH), is a hormone that is produced in the human body and excreted into the blood by the somatotrope cells of the anterior pituitary gland. It is a single-chain protein that is composed of 191 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 22,000 Daltons.

Testosterone steroid hormone from the androgen group. In mammals, testosterone is primarily secreted in the testes of males and the ovaries of females, although small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands. It is the principal male sex hormone and an anabolic steroid.

5 of the subjects showed high levels of testosterone in the circle with readings going from 50 – 76, 50 – 61 and 50 to 59 and 63.

The main organs which became imbalanced in the crop circle were the Heart, kidneys, maxillary sinus, sphenoid sinus and urinary tract.

"The other significant results were that 5 subjects had imbalanced first chakras. The first chakra is the base or root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine at the tailbone in back, and the pubic bone in front. This center holds the basic needs for survival, security and safety. The root chakra is powerfully related to our contact with the Earth Mother, providing us with the ability to be grounded into the earth plane. This is also the center of manifestation. When you are trying to make things happen in the material world, business or material possessions, the energy to succeed will come from the first chakra. If this chakra is blocked an individual may feel fearful, anxious, insecure and frustrated. Problems like obesity, anorexia nervosa, and knee troubles can occur. Root body parts include the hips, legs, lower back and sexual organs. The colors used for this chakra are red, brown and black.

Last year we saw a similar pattern relating to the first chakra."

On further examination we found that one participant had been particularly affected, namely Jim Lyons.

The brown bars relate to the control tests and the yellow to the repeated tests conducted inside the Silbury formation.  As you will see in Jim’s case his Leptin, Melatonin and Thyroid levels showed marked changes

Leptin levels reflect individual’s body energy balance. It has been found in several studies that fasting or following a very low calorie diet (VLCD) lowers leptin levels. This system is more sensitive to starvation than to overfeeding. That is, leptin levels do not rise extensively after overfeeding. It might be that the dynamics of leptin due to an acute change in energy balance are related to appetite and eventually to food intake.”

As we had had nothing to eat since breakfast and only water to drink until all the tests were completed, it would seem natural for Jim’s leptin levels to drop rather then increase by some 35% as was the case.

Melatonin is located in the pea sized pineal galnd at the centre of our brain. Associated with the Third Eye, Descartes described it as `Being the seat of the soul`. Affected by light, melatonin regulates the circadian cycle by chemically causing drowsiness and lowering the body temperature. Known as the `night cap` hormone or the `hormone of darlness`, becoming light dependent, it becomes active with the onset of evening and together with the hormones Pinoline and Seratonin regulates our sleep pattern and cycle.
Why therefore did Jim’s melatonin level increase by aprrox 20% when the reverse should have been the case?

Finally and somewhat worryingly, Jim’s thyroid levels markedly decreased by some 40%. This effect has been found in tests conducted in previous formations. To see such a drop would not normally take place in anything less that 3 months.

As illustarted by these results, unforeseen changes are taking place that need further investigation. This coming summer we will conducting further tests based on a more rigorous scientific appraoch. Double contros will be conducted at the edge to the field in addition to the Study centre controls and those later ones taken within a formation. If we want to demonstrate findings that have scientific acceptance then it will be very important to improve the methodology.

Agronomist Dr Clive Beale wrote

“For example, with the delay between measurements at the study centre and the field, most people's blood sugar levels must have been sharply falling (I know mine felt as though they were)."

This is an interesting and valid comment. In fact the Insulin results did not show any noticeable difference between the controls and the later tests conducted in the field.

Reports of unusual effects resulting from the day were interesting. Anne Leonard wrote

"Roger Taylor had very kindly agreed to give me a lift to Guildford, whence he was bound anyway, offering to drop me off at the railway station which was on his route home. A happy arrangement. Picture my surprise therefore to find him driving into Terminal 1 at Heathrow!!!!! It took a while to get back out!!  Oops!  Effects of the formation??? On reaching Terminal 1, to my surprise, we suddenly shot left, straight down a 45 degree slope, not, I think open normally to the public. . This was a sort of semi-vertical cul-de-sac. There was however a sharp bend [90 degrees] round which, undaunted, our driver swung his car scraping through a most narrow passage, thereby entering a car park from the wrong end. Coming eventually to a barrier, an attendant appeared shouting what the hell did we think we were doing and this barrier was to let people in, from the other side, and was not for letting anyone out! How had we got in, he cried.  Again, undaunted, Roger informed the varlet he was to LET US OUT whereupon, the pole was raised and out we scudded. Hours later, as I think I told you, we stopped at a hitherto unknown (to me) railway station where, said Roger,  ‘trains might be going to London!!’ I still couldn’t tell you the name of the place. It looked deserted. But eventually a train did come along and amazingly took me to London and this was free of charge for there was nobody to pay.""The feel-good factor is terrific, my energy levels have soared and, most striking of all, I have suddenly lost weight!!! Several pounds in fact! Also, it might be worth recognizing that Roger’s lack of coughing, in the circle and then in the car, would indicate that he had entered into a very relaxed state!!!  This would explain our unscheduled arrival at Heathrow!"

Roger Taylor confirmed thisWell, I did miss my usual turning off the M4 at exit 10, and then get confused when M25 turned up, so missed that and ended up tangling with
Heathrow! I was talking with Anne, it's true, but I know this route so well, that it seems significant that I made these mistakes."

“As for the cough, it takes me a long time to clear my lungs in the morning, but once I've done that, I usually don't cough again for several hours, so that observation would not be significant.”

However on reflection, despite Roger’s denial of anything unusual, one might ask why was it that his coughing only ceased whilst inside the circle?

Dr Clive Beale reported on his investigation

“1) The aim was to see if there was any difference in stress between the wheat growing within the formation and that growing outside it.

2) Measuring chlorophyll fluorescence in leaves is a generally accepted technique for identifying plant stress. Specifically, the ratio of Fv/Fm (the ratio of variable to maximum fluorescence) is measured.  For most plants, the ratio for un-stressed leaves should be around 0.83.

3) On Sunday I removed the 'flag leaf' (the leaf below the ear) from 10 plants growing in the formation and from 10 growing approximately 30 metres outside the formation. The leaves were kept in the dark for 10 minutes before fluorescence was measured with the equipment.

4) I have now gone through the results. The mean value of Fv/Fm for plants growing outside the formation was 0.82.  The mean value within the formation was also 0.82.

5) Conclusion - plant stress was not detected either inside or outside the formation."

"Overall it was an interesting pilot study that could be criticised for a) having a small sample size and b) for the fact that the equipment was set up in an area within the outer edge of the formation rather than outside.  It might be worth repeating on another occasion."

"Personally I found the unfamiliar equipment fascinating and intend to find
out more.  Konstantin referred me to the website www.korotkov.com and I have had a quick look.  There is a paper on the use of the technique for assessing fruit quality which looks most intriguing - and relevant to my work!"

"So thanks for opening my eyes to something new.  As far as the crop formation goes, I remain baffled as to how it can be created with such precision overnight. I will have to sit down and read my recently purchased copy of your book to find the answer!
I look forward to seeing the results of the measurements of my state of wellbeing and will be interested to note the correlation between the two techniques.”

Unfortunately since the day of the tests I have been unable to get in touch with Dr Konstantin Pavlidis by any means. He was measuring `entropy` http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy and appeared to be excited by his results in the field as compared to the control samples.
The water results were un-noteworthy apart from increases in the zinc, E.C.(mmhos/cm) & bicarbonate levels in sample 463 buried 4 inches inside the top perimeter. However these anomalies are of potentially significant interest and greater study and analysis is being conducted on them and an addendum will be added as soon as this work has taken place.

I take people on two one day tours of the circles ending the day with a memorable private entry visit to Stonehenge in the evening which due to its worldwide popularity, I have to book over a year in advance.

7Both were days when the rain fell in torrents and my doughty visitors, warned of the vagaries of the English weather, clad in mackintoshes and Wellingtons, rose magnificently to the challenge of slipping and sliding merrily up and down tramlines to reach our golden goals. No faint hearts these!

Reports sent in included several from 2008:

“I had my arm in a cast and it tended to swell in the heat and hurt, until I went into the circle upon which I felt the pain 'fall away' (like an arm recovering from pins/needles) pain came back later.”

The extraordinarily beautiful 2008 West Woods formation continues to bring forth reports; I am much indebted for an important one was sent to me by Norwegian Eva Haagensen which once again describes a loss of time when going to crop circles. It is almost as though we are entering another time and space:

“I was in England last summer in different crop circles. I was in a group with John Gursli and one in the group also had a pc .One evening he showed me a new cropsircle. I felt a very, very strong energy from the picture on the pc. It was so strong that I could not look at it. It was a waving cross if you understand me. After I saw it on the pc I knew it was very important for me to come inside the cropsircle. John took us there the next day and we went inside and I layed down inside it. After about twenty minutes I stood up again and I felt I had to go out again because it was so strong the energy that must have come inside my body. I went out and I decided to go back to our bus. But something had happened to me so I was not able to find the bus on the other side of a small wood. I went inside the wood to try to find the path. I do not know what happened to me in there because when I came out again I thought I had been there only a few minutes but it was an hour. When I came out again I was totally alone. I saw nobody so I had to call for help from the others in the group. I was not able to find the way on my own. The strange thing was that I never before brought my telephone into the cropsircles but this time something said I should bring it. So they found me and I went back to the bus and I felt wery strange. It was like I had a very heavy helmet on my head and that feeling was there the rest of the day. After that I had a sort of an energy in my head for five weeks that very often made me dizzy. I also want to tell you that i am a very sensitive person. I hope you can understand what I have written to you. My English is not perfect.”

15Alexandra Moore, who as a child of 12 suffered from respiratory polio, found that her voice had disappeared completely after visiting the Woven Basket circle in East Field. This was a formation that I visited on a number of times, finding anomalies in the ground layering each time.

James and Deborah Sheppard (they also run a B&B) kindly opened their field at Ogbourne Maisie to visitors installing an honesty box at the edge of the field, the fruits of which were going to be donated to Cystic Fibrosis.  Colin Graham sensed “a feeling of deja vue and of not being alone” in this `Trilobite`.  Named after the three lobed creature, the Trilobites were considered to be one of the planet’s most ancient complex life forms. They existed in the early Precambrian Period, some 570 million - 230 million years ago. Described as 'butterflies of the ancient seas' these hard-shelled segmented creatures, became extinct before the dinosaurs ever existed.

Another intrepid participant, bordering octogenarian Doreen Binks, was originally concerned that she would not have the energy or stamina to last the day of vigorous walking, most demanding of which was the mile plus trek in the afternoon (having already visited two formations in the morning) up to the Trilobite, walking zig-zag along the bottom of the field and then up a long and twisty side tramline in order to reach the formation. However her glowing report tells me that

I felt tired as we reached the Ogbourne Maisie crop circle and sat down in the circle for about 10 minutes- on leaving the site, I was surprised to find that my fatigue had gone. As we reached Stonehenge I was anticipating feeling tired having been on the go all day. I leaned against the stones and felt only a small tingle in one hand but on leaving the site, I found I was no longer tired on arriving home at 10pm! I was feeling refreshed and not hungry. I had the best night’s sleep in months and the following day woke up feeling very calm and positive which lasted all day. I was apprehensive about how I would cope with a 14 hour day- so the outcome was a big surprise- something happened- what? Can one tap into this form of rejuvenation?”

Parallels are frequently drawn between Mandalas and crop circles. Mandalas are the schematic representations of the cosmos in Buddhist, American Indian and other rituals. Seen as universal symbols they are widely used as a means of inducing meditative or trance like states.  Mandala is a Sanskrit word and means a circle or centre. Often to be found in rose windows in cathedrals and churches they are thought to represent a sacred space. The Taoists also saw the circle as a sacred universal space.

16Mandalas also act as a `Sign Stimulus`.After a lovely musical chord is struck on the piano, resonances in the ear and in the brain kindle emotions, and a Mandala has the same effect visually. It is known as a "sign stimulus" or "releaser." Many of the crop formations are shaped like mandalas (see photo at left). They trigger a release or behavioural response without requiring either knowledge or understanding on the part of the person's conscious mind. Mandalas are used in modification and can induce trance like states when people seem to fall asleep. Therefore I was not surprised to be sent the following report from a visitor who had entered the circle above “ on entering slept deeply for 20-30 minutes “.

A collection of circles arose in the south Midlands, two in Warwickshire and one opposite the famous Rollright stones at Long Compton in Oxfordshire.

17An interesting one in Warwickshire was the tetrahedron that was found with the apex of the tetrahedron pointing directly at the Chesterton Windmill. Famous as a landmark, it has had a prominent position above the village for nearly 350 years.
Thought to have been built in 1632, by Lord of the Manor, Sir Edward Peyto the windmill could have been designed by a pupil of Indigo Jones, John Stone . Peyto was a mathematician and Astrologer, and as the windmill had a rotating top it is possible it might have been built as an Observatory, with the rotating top acting as a station for Peyto’s telescope. Later it became a working windmill grinding corn.

18

After giving my annual talk in Petersfield in October I was interested to meet one of Peto’s (modern spelling) descendants who had been unaware of this forebear’s links to the windmill and was delighted to know more! Close by was the Radford circle. It now seems likely that unusual atmospheric conditions of lowered pressure, are part of the process of the natural force behind this phenomenon.

https://cropcirclephotographs.co.uk/news/stonehenge-julia-set-eyewitness.shtml. Describing this anomaly was a report from Lynn Jenkins of Obrenpovac, Serbia, “it was windy as I walked towards the circle. Once inside the circle there was no wind although nearby tress were moving. It was also very warm inside the circle. The conditions were cloudy and windy.”

Many experiments have been successfully conducted by groups attempting to create crop circles by mediation. The Sussex group being one and Unex Society being another https://cropcirclephotographs.co.uk/articles/dreams/ in 1999 when in a dream experiment following an excellent talk by Dr Serena Roney- Dougal in February, I foresaw the Over Wallop formation that appeared on the 4 May 1999 depicting the solar eclipse that was to follow on the 11 August that year.

Simon Masters sent me this intriguing report.

''Crop Circles and Intentionality''

“On Thursday 23rd July 2009, around 30 local people attended a talk by Glenn Broughton a visiting researcher, tour guide and expert on the subject of “Crop Circles” at Sheldon village hall, near Dunkerswell."

18The following day this crop circle was reported by cropcircleconnector.com an authoritative website on crop circles.

“What follows is an account of processes that immediately pre-dated and post-dated the appearance of the pattern above, and were connected by group by intentionality.

“My homework for the event had consisted of a cursory review of internet photography of crop circles.  Some of these I had earmarked as “fakes” in the sense that I believed them to be photographic manipulations.  Prior to the meeting I had been impressed by the artistic form of the circles which have developed in both in terms of intricacy and sophistication of execution since I last reviewed the phenomenon.  Simple circles, such as the one that appeared on the Milverton bypass and kindled my personal interest some 15 (?) years ago, are not significant news any longer."

"During the meeting’s Q&A session I asked: “As someone who has visited over 250 crop patterns, what kind of intelligence do you feel lies behind the phenomenon?”

Glen had suggested that he did not want to give explanations, but described his sense is that “[the intelligence is] a playful one, one that enjoys interacting with human minds…”

“Several of us remarked that we found this comment very interesting."

“The scientist in me is called on to find a rational and simple explanation for the patterns I see.  Employing Occam’s Razor, I conclude the creators have be a group of [human] land artists, some of whom are involved in the occult, studies of divine proportion and sacred geometry and who have a remarkable talent for evading detection during the creation of their art.”

“Glen however had earlier described an “experiment” he had conducted with another group, in which the individuals present had, effectively, “asked the circle creators to produce a circle for them”.  He reported that, remarkably, as if on cue, the next significant pattern to be reported had held, for him, a personal and a numeric connection with his experiment.  Although inelegant, the pattern reported contained the same number of circles as minds engaged with the experiment."

“My response to was to encourage Glenn to continue to conduct such experiments in a “scientific” manner, but, given we all appeared to share Glen’s “sense of the playful”, could we play now?  I cannot remember precisely but I asked “Is everyone here up for a group meditation, with the intention of asking the circle makers to create a work that speaks to us as a group?”   The hall was hastily cleared of chairs, and 25 people held hands and were taken through a guided thought process by Glenn’s wife."

“Those unwilling to participate were unobtrusive observers or had left the hall by this stage, and in a ten minute exercise which was not without mirth and laughter, the group focused their intent on building “our” crop circle pattern."

“There was no mention of specificity of timing or pattern.  I remember being surprised that, as well as counting the participants (I was number 8 and Sarah 9), Glen showed some interest in the fact that 16 females and 9 males took part.  My personal state was one of “contentment” and “non-attachment to outcome”, and, personally, I was not cogniscent of my sexuality during the meditation."

“As mentioned above, the following day a formation was reported.  Since reading the report on Saturday 26th, my mind has been periodically intensely reflective on the process and finding some form of explanation or meaning for what has happened. I have an interest in practical magic, but it is not everyday I attempt a collaborative manifestation or demonstration of this nature."

“Some specific “connectedness” or “cause and effect” phenomena may be worth mentioning."

“(1) In later discussion, it has emerged that Glen had the intention of doing a guided mediation but was reluctant to initiate such an exercise with an unfamiliar group.  It would seem that my spontaneous suggestion facilitated his intent.  Furthermore I noted my ego-I reaction to this, and was pleasantly surprised to find “I” felt comfortable with my contribution to the group process."

“(2) The pattern consists of 12 large and 12 small circles, plus a central circle making 25 circles in all.  The pattern has the layout of a clock face and therefore can be interpreted as relating an analogue device for measuring time.  It also has the gross symmetry of a snowflake.  Closer examination reveals three-fold rotational symmetry."

“(3) We can note that 9 (males) + 16 (females) = 25 (circles) = 12 + 12+ 1, but also that 3^2+4^2=5^2.  That is to say the numbers of males and females associated with the creative process have a relation to a right angled triangle of sides 3, 4, and 5 units in length, and with the first five rational numbers: 25 = 1 x (3^2) + (4^2), and of course that the formation is one solution to the Dionysian polynomial: x^2 + y^2 = z^2."

“(4) Our group met near Dunkerswell which is one of three aerodromes built principally by the Americans during WWII on the Blackdown Hills.  The others are Smeatharpe and Tricky Warren (Culmhead).  The pattern appeared at Smeathe's Plantation nr Ogbourne Down Gallop, Wiltshire."

“My position oscillates between “belief” that we had some cause and effect of this particular circle, and “rejection” that the whole thing is co-incidence.   The following explanations (or cause and effect models) exist:

  • “Our” circle does not exist, it is a “photoshop” hoax.
  • “Our” circle exists, but the numeric coincidence is insignificant and there is no cause and effect (or synchronicity) relationship between what took place at Sheldon and Smeath Plantation crop circle.
  • “Our” circle exists, but there was direct human to human communication between one or more people present at Sheldon village hall and the “artist” behind “our” circle.

“These explanations are not mutually exclusive."

“So, in conclusion, the phenomenon is not explained and I suggest that further work is required.”

Is there indeed a consciousness inherent in the crop circles that links itself to the human mind or vice versa? To me the answer is a resounding `Yes`. We are all part of the Universal Consciousness which is multidimensional and multi-interactional. This being so, we have to take on board the awesome fact that in this we are all indeed part of each other.

The final of three water tests were conducted in this formation. The farmer kindly allowed us entry and kindly drove us in this Land Rover over extremely rutted ground right to the site some 2 miles from any habitation and directly below the famous Ridgeway.

Control samples 4464, 465, unburied double control 467. Noticeable nitrate levels were found in samples 467 and 470 and to a lesser degree in sample 472.

This summer was one of continuing to reassess and improve our research procedures and methodology. The use of capacitors may be a way forward and this will enable us to analyse results in the scientific units of joules.

Despite the Highs of this year, the Lows were just as profound if not more so. We lost so many special people to the Other Side. First was the death of long time and timeless researcher into all aspects of the Unexplained, David Kingston. Never was there a truer or braver friend. Respected and loved by all with whom he came in contact, he is irreplaceable as indeed was the tragic death the following day of my long time friend and web master Paul Vigay https://cropcirclephotographs.co.uk/news/Vigay/ .

Next came the renowned Pat Delgado who had suffered so badly at the hands of the media in the early days. A brilliant engineer and healer, Pat was also loved and respected by all who knew him and despite the fact that he distanced himself from the crop circles as a result of the media, always remained ready to give much valued advice and help when asked.

The death of classical scholar, historian, and general polymath, John Michell, a man of letters and great insights, came next. Author of countless books including `New View over Atlantis` John bravely defied the odds and managed to complete his final book with Allan Brown “How the World is Made” before he departed leaving us all the worse off for the loss of puckish wit and unique sense of time and humour.

Finally and not least was the rapid departure of long time researcher and photographer Nick Nicholson. One moment he was striding across the fields unusually fit for a man of his age; the next he had succumbed and had left us before the year was out.

All men of unquestioned integrity and honesty, seldom have we known such a great depletion of such sparking jewels of humanity within our ranks. Their loss is incalculable not only for the people they were but for their contribution to the crop circle world and the wider world in general. We remember their families in our prayers and I like to think of them, a merry band of five, having a hugh and joyful `get together` on the other side, discussing with Plato and others on what was so unknown to them on earth, is now known to them.  I feel sure they will be helping us in many unseen ways.

My thanks go to all of them for their generous friendship, their encouragement, their infectious joy of life and the teachings they unstintingly gave me. I was privileged to have known them well.

My thanks also go the people of the present who give me their time and trust in sending me reports of their experiences. You are the stimulus behind my research and the factor that enable this important work to continue and progress.  Without you, this research would not have come as far and widely recognised as it has. Please continue.

My thanks go to all the scientists with whom I work, in particular to Jim Lyons whose energy, enthusiasm and generous sharing of his knowledge is boundless.

To the many farmers who kindly open their fields to the hoards of `croppies` who don’t always understand that the fields are not open playing grounds but are the livelihood of the farmers on privately owned land.  Their honesty boxes are much appreciated and I believe everyone is happy to make contributions.

Finally and not least to the kind and intrepid Andy Potter who bravely and skilfully has taken on the management of my web site. I am indebted to you all.

Despite these profoundly sorrowful losses the magic of the phenomenon remains constant in its ability to feed our curiosity and to take us beyond present day conventional thinking and learning.
